"Australian Aviculture" journal index
Australian Aviculture journal has been produced on a monthly basis since January 1947.  This web site has listed, on each species web page, all the references relating to that species of bird.  References of a general nature to that type of bird are listed on the upper level web page e.g. Softbills, Quail, Amazon, Lovebirds, Housing, Feeding etc pages.  Thousands of articles are listed.  If an article has been missed, contact us and we will fix any omissions.

"The Avicultural Improvement Society of Victoria" was Founded in 1940.
In January 1944 the name was changed to "The Avicultural Society of Australia".
  Reference" The Bulletin No 16, Jan 1944 Page 1 - 2.  Membership subscription in 1945 was 10 shillings per year.
A combined 70 years of continuous service to aviary and native wild birds.
The 2007 membership was about 1600 from all States and Territories of Australia and many overseas members.  Journal circulation is about 1700 per month.  A committee of 13 people manage the Society.

The Avicultural Society of Australia membership for 2010 costs only $35 per year, Overseas membership costs $AUD50.  This includes 12 issues of the "Australian Aviculture" journal.  "Australian Aviculture" journal is circulated monthly and arrives in the week prior to the monthly meeting.  Current journal title "Australian Aviculture" was introduced in January 1947.

The monthly Avicultural Society of Australia meeting is held on the third Wednesday of the month.

ASA monthly meeting lasts about 2 hours ( 8pm till about 10pm) and includes a 40 - 50 minute talk/lecture supported by slides, data projector or PowerPoint presentation. A coffee or cup of tea is available prior to the start of the meeting and supper is available after the close of the meeting.
Meeting entry is free but a voluntary donation of $2 enters you into a raffle with a prize of 20 kg of bird seed.  Raffles and "lucky door" prizes help to pay for the cost of the hall hire.

A proposed new 2006 "National Exotics Birds Registration" style registration scheme is being discussed/investigated by the Exotic Bird Advisory Group (EBAG).  The intent of this scheme is to register each and every exotic bird that is listed on the species list.

ASA has a Service Items Steward and sells a range of bird related items such as leg rings, thermostats, mouse traps, journal binders and a range of premix bird foods.  Most of the items can be purchased at the monthly meetings (subject to availability) or collected at the meeting after a phone order has been placed.  Mail order available.

ASA has a Book Steward and sells a range of bird related books and magazines.  Back issues of the "Australian Aviculture" journal are available, but have to be pre-ordered and are subject to availability.  Most of the items can be purchased at the monthly meetings (subject to availability) or collected at the meeting after a phone order has been placed.  Mail order is available for most items.

ASA has an Exchange Steward who maintains a list of "birds for sale" and "birds wanted".

ASA organizes the Melbourne bird sale.

ASA has a library of books, videos, journals and magazines available to members.
